fREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY AN OCTOPUS?
An octopus is a mysterious and highly intelligent creature. Octopuses possess distinct personalities and have the ability to solve puzzles, navigate through mazes and take things apart. Their existence as graceful and complex nautical creatures was an inspiration to us when we explored names that aligned with our vision. We wanted a name with significance that could help us make a connection with beautiful art and with the oceans and marine wildlife we want to protect.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPEN EDITION AND LIMITED EDITION?
We refer to our "open editions" as "Classic Collections", which are available for anyone to buy anytime without limit. So you can go ahead and order 8 or 800!
Our "limited edition" collections are just that - limited. This means we will never sell more than a limited quantity - guaranteed. When you purchase a Shiny Octopus Limited Edition Print, you will receive a Certificate of Authenticity that is numbered and hand-signed by the artist.
ARE YOU CURRENTLY ACCEPTING THE WORK OF OTHER ARTISTS?
Yes! Part of our vision is to evolve into a platform that represents extremely-talented-yet-undiscovered artists who are out there trying to make a living. Not just in photography. If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a Shiny Octopus Artist AND a helper of our ocean conservation mission, please do not hesitate to contact us or make a submission.
WHAT IS AN ARCHIVAL PRINT?
When we refer to "archival prints" we are referring to the estimated longevity of your print, which is determined by the quality of paper and the type of pigment or ink that is used to produce a print. We've partnered with an established New York City printer and framer specializing in fine art printing (archival prints) that will last you a lifetime when properly stored or framed. Our frames offer UV glazing, but if you'd prefer to use another framer, we recommend using UV or museum-quality glazing to protect your art. Shiny Octopus uses lustre paper, which has a slight gloss, unless otherwise specified or requested. We're proud of our white glove service, which means we print on-demand and inspect each print in person before it's framed and/or shipped.
WHAT IS GLAZING?
The glass or acrylic in a frame that protects your art.
WHAT IS A GALLERY FRAME?
A gallery frame is a style of frame that is simple and classic, much like frames you see in an art gallery. Shiny Octopus offers cut-to-order frames made from solid maple.
CAN I SELECT A DIFFERENT COLOR FRAME?
Not crazy about our curator's recommended black or white gallery frames? Other options are available on request. Get in touch to discuss.
WHAT'S YOUR RETURN POLICY?
Given our present age as baby octopuses, we consider all sales final. However, we will consider returns on a case-by-case basis.
